Very little is left from the original 9th- century church, which was entirely rebuilt in the 19th Century. The façade was completed in 1909 and the interior was designed in the Neoclassical style by Lorenzo Santi between 1837 and 1843. The interior was later remodeled by G.B. Meduna at which point many of the interior paintings were sold. Some of the remaining works are Jacopo Tintoretto's Baptism of Christ, recently restored by Save Venice, and Johann Karl Loth's Holy Family.
On the right side of the church is the former Scuola del Vin, where the newly-restored Life of St. Helena ceiling canvases by Diziani are located in an upstairs meeting room.
