Founded in the ninth century by Doge Giustiniano Particiaco, the Church of San Zaccaria is dedicated to the father of Saint John the Baptist, Zacharias, whose relics are venerated within the church. The church was rebuilt in the late XV century. The new interior and part of the façade, a mix of Gothic and Renaissance styles, was built by Antonio Gambello and completed after 1483 by Mauro Codussi. A statue of Saint Zacharias by Alessandro Vittoria stands over the doorway
