Funerary Monument to Doge Francesco Foscari Restored in the Basilica dei Frari
July 2026
Save Venice is proud to announce the completion of the conservation of the majestic 15th-century Funerary Monument to Doge Francesco Foscari in the Basilica of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari.
This achievement was made possible through the expertise and dedication of an exceptional team: conservators Egidio Arlango, Alessandra Costa, Jasmine Segalin, Elisabetta Pinton, Benedetta Carrieri, Isabel Pizzoccaro, and Elisa Sartori; architect Marco Biscontin; officials of the Venice branch of the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Patriarchal Diocese of Venice; photographer Matteo De Fina; and Father Marco Pellegrini, the Franciscan Friars, and the Frari staff.
Save Venice extends its deepest gratitude to the Nora McNeely Hurley Foundation, as well as Professor Patricia Fortini Brown, and Dr. Alice T. Friedman for their generous support of this vital project.
The restoration will be inaugurated at the end of September 2026. Later this year, Save Venice will also publish a new book dedicated to this extraordinary monument and its conservation, thanks to the support of Ferigo and Claudia Foscari, and Alvise Foscari.
