Titian & Save Venice: Conserving Six Masterpieces
2026 marks the 450th anniversary of Titian’s death. Reflecting on his remarkable contribution to art and enduring legacy, Save Venice is proud to announce the publication of Titian & Save Venice: Conserving Six Masterpieces (Marsilio Arte, 2026), edited by Dr. Davide Gasparotto and Dr. Gabriele Matino. The book was presented to the public at the Ateneo Veneto in Venice on Friday, March 6.
During his career, Titian produced some of the most innovative paintings of his time, becoming the most celebrated Italian painter in Europe. Since 1971, Save Venice has supported the restoration of many of his masterpieces, and six of these are featured in the volume: Saint Mark Enthroned (Basilica della Salute), Assumption of the Virgin and Madonna di Ca’ Pesaro (Basilica dei Frari), Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple (Gallerie dell’Accademia), Annunciation (Scuola Grande di San Rocco), and Annunciation (Duomo di Treviso). Funded by Save Venice with the support of Christopher Todd Page, the book presents discoveries from these conservation campaigns, offering new insights into Titian’s creative process and technique, and publishing previously unseen details from the Save Venice photographic archive, alongside reflections by conservators and leading scholars. The volume is available in both English and Italian editions.
