The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Boston chapter of Save Venice is open to all free of charge. The meeting will summarize our activities and restorations in the previous year, and present a slate of officers for 2024-25 to be voted upon by those present.
An optional ticketed reception ($50) will precede the business meeting and lecture.
A short lecture by Robert Echols, a Boston-based art historian and curator specializing in Venetian Renaissance painting, will conclude the meeting.
In 2025-26, Save Venice Boston is sponsoring the restoration of Giovanni Galizzi’s Madonna and Child with Saint Andrew and the Infant John the Baptist in the church of San Geremia, Venice. A generation ago, Giovanni Galizzi (active 1543-died 1565) was known only for two signed and dated paintings in his native Bergamo. Today, thanks to a breakthrough 1995 article by Robert Echols, Galizzi is known as a prolific associate of Jacopo Tintoretto in Venice and is the subject of articles and exhibitions, as well as scholarly controversy.
In his talk, Robert Echols will describe how he uncovered the unknown Venetian career of this illusive artist.
Robert Echols is a Boston-based art historian and curator specializing in Venetian Renaissance painting, in particular the work of Jacopo Tintoretto and his circle. He co-curated the 2018-19 Tintoretto 500th anniversary exhibition at the Doge’s Palace, Venice, and at the National Gallery of Art, Washington. His numerous publications, many co-authored with Frederick Ilchman, have provided a major reconsideration of Tintoretto’s oeuvre.
