The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Boston chapter of Save Venice is open to all free of charge. The meeting will summarize our activities and restorations in the previous year, and present a slate of officers for 2026-27 to be voted upon by those present.

An optional ticketed reception ($50) will precede the business meeting and lecture.

A short lecture by Victoria Reed (MFA Boston), about a newly-acquired Venetian painting and its provenance, will conclude the meeting.

The Mystery of Giambono’s Bishop Saint at the MFA Boston

In 2024, the MFA purchased a standing Bishop Saint (ca. 1440) by the Venetian painter Michele Giambono, once part of an impressive Gothic altarpiece dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel. The history of this altarpiece has long been a mystery to scholars. Tracing the provenance of the new acquisition led to discoveries about not only the Bishop Saint, but also the original location of Giambono’s Saint Michael Altarpiece and its subsequent fate.

Victoria Reed is the Bettina Burr Chair for Provenance at the MFA, responsible for the research and documentation of the ownership history of the museum’s encyclopedic collection. She has lectured and published extensively on matters related to provenance research, museum ethics, and restitution. Trained as a Renaissance art historian, Reed received her BA in liberal arts at Sarah Lawrence College and her MA and Ph.D. in art history at Rutgers.
