Join us at The Frick Collection for a special before-hours, curator-led tour of Siena: The Art of Bronze, 1450–1500, the first exhibition to focus on Siena as a center of artistic excellence and technical innovation in bronze sculpture during the Italian Renaissance. The show brings together nearly forty works in bronze, including statues, reliefs, candelabra, medals, and more—most of which have never been exhibited outside of Tuscany—by some of the most influential sculptors in this period, among them Donatello, Vecchietta, and Francesco di Giorgio. Building on popular past presentations of bronze sculpture at the Frick, the exhibition invites visitors to appreciate the medium’s beauty and versatility while learning about the complex technical and political challenges that the Sienese bronze workers faced. 

Led by Dr. Giulio Dalvit, Associate Curator

Giulio Dalvit is Associate Curator at The Frick Collection in New York. In 2020-21, he worked as Guest Curator on theFrick Madison Project, working on the temporary installation of the Frick in the Breuer Building and on temporaryexhibitions such as Propagazioni. Giuseppe Penone at Sèvres (2022) and The Eveillard Gift (2022-23). Over the followingyears, he has worked on the reinstallation of the Collection at 1 East 70th Street, inaugurated in 2025. He is currentlyworking on the exhibition Siena: The Art of Bronze (2026) and another on Filarete (2027). Before joining the Frick, he hasheld various fellowship, lecture and research positions at the Poldi Pezzoli Museum in Milan, the Kunsthistorisches Institutin Florence, the University of Amsterdam, UCL and the Courtauld Institute in London, where he also pursued his Ph.D onthe Sienese artist Vecchietta (1410–80). His research has appeared in many catalogues, books and academic journals.His latest books are Vecchietta (2025), which has appeared both in Italian and English, and Titian’s Man in a Red Hat, co-authored with American painter Elizabeth Peyton. Together with Xavier F. Salomon and Aimee Ng, he has featured invarious Frick video series, including the Webby Award-honored “Cocktails with a Curator”, now a book for Rizzoli.
