Join Save Venice on an excursion to examine two historic capital cities, Prague and Dresden, through a uniquely Venetian lens and explore the central themes of conservation and restoration. Prague, like Venice, is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, and visits will be made to historic buildings undergoing conservation treatments. Dresden, in contrast, has been heavily rebuilt in the decades following World War II, but efforts have been made to remake and retain the historic architecture of the city.
Save Venice Chairman Dr. Frederick Ilchman and art historian and curator Thierry Morel will lead guests through both cities, with German history, architecture, and decorative arts specialist Dr. Jarl Kremier joining in Dresden. The week will be filled with extensive behind-the-scenes visits to national museums and private homes; special music performances; luxury accommodations for the four nights in Prague and three in Dresden; and the best of Czech and German cuisine. Guests will see seminal masterpieces by Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese, Vecchio, Canaletto, Bellotto, and Rosalba Carriera, and enjoy a day in the Bohemian and Saxon countryside with a special visit to the palace that was Giacomo Casanova’s last home before his death.
*Please note this excursion has limited capacity and will be offered to qualifying supporters on a first-come basis.
Excursions raise funds for Save Venice’s mission to preserve historic art and architecture in Venice, and are available exclusively to current Fellow ($1,000) Members and above. Unsure of your membership status? Inquire at newyork@savevenice.org.
