The 50th Annual General Meeting of Save Venice’s Boston chapter will take place via Zoom. Greet friends and meet new fans of Venice during a pre-meeting reception, from 5:45-6:00 p.m. Bring your own prosecco!
The first part of the meeting will include a brief account of activities since the AGM of 2020, a review of restoration projects, a financial statement for the fiscal year, plans for 2021-22, re-election of this year’s class of the Executive Committee, and the slate of officers for 2021-22, to be voted upon by those at the meeting.
The second part of the program will consist of remarks by Professor Michelle Laughran of St. Joseph’s College of Maine, on the topic
“Plague in Venice: 1576, 1630, and 2020”
Prof. Laughran is a historian whose interdisciplinary research has focused on the impact of epidemic diseases upon Italian Renaissance society. Her research has investigated the effects of plague in a wide variety of areas, including the history of the body, medicine, prostitution, cosmetics and costume. Her essay on the 1576 and 1630 plagues in Venice is published in the catalogue of the exhibition, Venetia 1600: Births and Rebirths currently on view at the Palazzo Ducale. She was in Venice this past August.
